Our Guest Speaker & Entertainment Bios
Angelo Posteraro
Angelo is the director and founder of Milton Orthotic and Wellness Centre and its MOWC Foundation. Eight years ago, Angelo and a group of community volunteers formed a committee to create Game On, an outdoor ball hockey tournament for kids in support of kids’ mental health. Angelo is active in his community, garnering numerous awards for both his volunteerism and his business acumen. He also serves as the Past President of the Italian Canadian Cultural Centre of Milton, and as a member of the Milton Optimist Club.
Deputy Chief Roger Wilkie from Halton Regional Police (Board Chair of ROCK)
Deputy Chief Roger Wilkie began his career with the Halton Regional Police Service in 1996 and currently serves as the Deputy Chief of Regional Operations.
Deputy Chief Wilkie believes that community safety and well-being is a shared responsibility and is committed to mobilizing and engaging the community and key stakeholders to ensure that the Halton Region is as safe tomorrow as it is today. He believes in the importance of collaborative and coordinated service delivery and was instrumental in the development of the Halton Region’s Situation Table Strategy and Community Safety and Well-being Plan.
Over the years Deputy Chief Wilkie has sat on a number of victim-based committees to enhance service delivery and he currently volunteers as the Chair of the Executive Board of Directors for the Reach Out Centre for Kids (ROCK).
Kirsten Dougherty (ROCK)
Late last year Kirsten Dougherty was named ROCK CEO. She has been a part of ROCK for the past 20 years, and most recently served as VP of people, culture, and sustainability at ROCK. She is dedicated to ending the wait times for children and youth in need of mental health services through sustainable funding. ROCK now has 30 programs over 15 sites with 200 staff helping 8,500 families.
Mayor Gordon Krantz
Gordon Krantz has served as Milton’s mayor since 1980. He is the longest serving mayor of a major municipality in Canada. He was a part-time firefighter starting in 1960, and he was first elected as a councillor in 1965. He has been in continuous service with the Town of Milton for 60 years.
Regional Councillor Colin Best
Councillor Best represents Milton’s Ward 1 at the Region of Halton. He has represented the downtown area for over 25 years on local council and 11 years on regional council. He has served on numerous volunteer boards and organizations over the years.
Adam van Koeverden, MP for Milton
Adam van Koeverden is currently Milton’s MP. Prior to taking up political life he was an international-level sprint kayaker for Team Canada and won a gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. He collected more two silvers and a bronze medal over the course of his competition in four Olympic Games. He was Canada’s flagbearer at the Closing Ceremonies of the 2004 Olympics, and won the Lou Marsh Trophy as Canada’s top athlete that same year.
Ron MacLean
Ron MacLean has been the host of Hockey Night in Canada on CBC and Sportsnet since 1986, and is also the co-host of Rogers Hometown Hockey. He lives in Oakville, and has refereed junior hockey in Canada for many years.
Erica Crews – ROCK Speaker
Erica is the program coordinator of Danielle’s Place eating disorder support and resource centre at ROCK. Erica has lived experience with an eating disorder and was able to achieve recovery through a combination of clinical and community supports. She is now passionate about creating programs and services that will meet clients where they’re at; those who are at risk of developing an eating disorder, experiencing low body image and or self esteem. As the Danielle’s Place Coordinator Erica is dedicated to ensuring that the program continues to grow creatively and effectively in order to best serve the community.
John Tonelli
John Tonelli was born and raised in Milton, and went on to win four-straight Stanley Cups with the New York Islanders in the early 1980s. Earlier this year the New York Islanders retired his number 27 to the rafters of Nassau Coliseum. In Milton he has a rink named in his honour, and in 2016 he was inducted in the inaugural class of the Milton Sports Hall of Fame.
Joanna LIss (POSITIVE SPACE NETWORK) – ROCK Speaker
Joanna Liss is the youth drop-in coordinator for the Positive Space Network of Halton Region or PSN, which is affiliated with ROCK. Through education, visibility, awareness, and supportive programming, the Positive Space Network envisions a future in which diverse LGBTQ+ youth, individuals, and families live in a welcoming and supportive community.
Tara Slone
Tara Slone is the lead singer of the Canadian rock band Joydrop, which saw major success in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. They were nominated for best new group in 2002 at the Juno Awards. After shining as a contestant on Rockstar INXS in 2005, Tara joined CityTV’s Breakfast Television in Calgary. In 2014, joined Rogers Hometown Hockey and now serves as co-host of the weekly Sunday night national hockey program.
Darren Haydar
Darren Haydar is Milton born and bred. He played 23 games in the NHL and over 700 games in the AHL. He is the AHL’s top players of all-time, having won two Calder Cups and is the AHL’s all-time leader in playoff goals, assists and points. He played for Team Canada in 2003 at the Spengler Cup, and he was inducted into the Milton Sports Hall of Fame last year.
Carrie Apa
Carrie Apa, her husband Stephen, as well as her son Matteo have participated in Game On since its inception. They believe in the power of Game On to change lives by improving access to kids’ mental health supports.
Tessa Bonhomme
Tessa Bonhomme is a former Olympic hockey player and won a gold medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. She has appeared as a TV analyst for TSN and has starred on Battle of the Blades. She previously played for the Toronto Furies of the CWHL.
Hayley Wickenheiser
Hayley Wickenheiser is one of the greatest hockey players of all-time. She served as captain of Team Canada and won four Olympic gold medals and one silver from 1998 to 2014. She’s also won seven World Championships and placed second six times at the World level. She is Assistant Director of Player Development for the Toronto Maple Leafs and is now completing her medical degree.
DJ Luke
DJ Luke is one of the premiere DJ’s in Halton and has served as the official voice of Game On since year one. He continues to give back to his community and is an integral part of the Game On team.
Magician Tyler Fergus
Tyler Fergus is Milton’s most talked about magician. He is a 3x diamond winner for best family entertainment and he performs at countless weddings, schools, birthday parties, social gatherings, fundraisers, fairs and more. Whether you are looking for a full blown show or a magician who can stroll around your event and perform incredible tricks, Tyler Fergus is your magician.
Alessia Cohle
Country Music Entertainer
After the successful release of her single Love Gone Right, Alessia Cohle has been putting her own stamp on country music. She recently released Wild Eyed Wanderer, the follow-up EP to her FACTOR funded, full-length album, Talk To Me. She has opened up for Brett Kissel, River Town Saints, The Washboard Union, and George Canyon; as well as performed on festival stages such as Lucknow’s Music In The Fields, Havelock Country Jamboree, Manitoulin Country Fest, and Toronto Cider Fest.
