Outdoor Ball Hockey Supporting Kids’ Mental Health

Supported and raised funds for ROCK (Kids’ Mental Health Milton) – Raised just under $200,000

“Game On!” was more than just outdoor ball hockey; it was a celebration of community spirit, sportsmanship, and philanthropy. For a decade, this unique event transformed the Home Depot parking lot into a vibrant hub of activity, bringing together players of all ages, dedicated volunteers, and generous sponsors in support of a vital cause – ROCK (Kids’ Mental Health). 

The event showcased the positive power of sports to unite individuals, promote healthy activity, and inspire positive change.

Organizing Committee
Consisted of members from the community and service groups, including the Rotary Club of Milton, the Optimist Club of Milton, the Knights of Columbus, and the Italian Cultural Centre of Milton.

Volunteers

The event also relied on the generous support of numerous community volunteers and service groups who contributed their time and skills in various roles, including Setup and takedown, Referees, Team Player leads, BBQ, Volunteer Coordinator, Ball Hockey Goalie Equipment, team shirts, raffle items and hockey play stations to keep everyone occupied during the games.

During Our 10 years, we had:

• Over 400 Business Sponsors
• Over 650 Volunteers
• Over 600 participants – Participants fundraise and play ball hockey, supporting kid’s mental health
• Over 10,000 Visitors
• Featured on CBC Hockey Day In Canada, CHCH TV News, COGECO News and local Milton Media. 

2019 – Walter Gretzky

We had the honour and privilege of having Walter at our 7th Annual Game On Outdoor Ball Hockey Tournament supporting ROCK (Kids’ Mental Health) where we raised just over $29,000. A definite highlight.

The Year 2020

We had our event virtually LIVE via ZOOM. “Mental Health doesn’t take a break” so neither did we with our messaging and event. The larger pandemic was and still is mental health. A proud moment during our 10 year tenure.

MC – Chris Mei (from the Weather Network), Ron Maclean, Adam Van Koeverden, Tara Slone, Scott Fox, ROCK Speakers, Haley Wickenheiser, John Tonelli, Darren Haydar, Tessa Bonhomme 

Accessible and Inclusive:
With age categories ranging from 6 to adult, the event encouraged participation from diverse groups, promoting inclusivity and a love for sports.

Affordable Fun:
The $10 entry fee provided participants with a BBQ lunch, a participant medal, a team t-shirt, protective eyewear, and the opportunity to have their name engraved on the “Game On!” Stanley Cup, ensuring a memorable experience for all.

It’s a time of reflection, celebration and gratitude.
